History
The Bristol Yacht CLub came into being at a meeting held August 17, 1948, when a small group of interested persons met to discuss the meetings of this group it was found that the response was most encouraging and all interested were invited to attend the meetings.
Plans were made for election of officers and the preparation of a constitution and by-laws. A proposed constitution was submitted to the November meeting and was adopted unanimously.
At the December meeting the officers for the coming year were elected and later in the month a lease was approved by the members of Borough Council.
In April, 1949, ground was broken for the club building, and from then on work progressed rapidly. The club house was carried to an habitable stage, a retaining wall was built across the front of the property, and a light marine railway was installed.
During the 1950, gasoline and water facilities were installed at the float, and a heavy marine railway was begun. The interior of the club house was partially completed.
Projects for the year 1951 included lighting for the runway and float, grading of the club grounds, construction of seats around the fire place; and a new tile floor.
In between work sessions the members have found time to attend numerous regattas, both power and sail, along the Delaware River and at shore points.
The club is a member of the Delaware River Yachtsmen's League and hold Fleet Charter No. 6, in the Duster Class Yacht Racing Association.
